Interview with Ekat Bork

Question: How would you describe your music?

Ekat Bork : I don't like to describe my music, I have been described as "genre - bending", drawing on various genres including electronic, post-punk, triphop, hip-hop, industrial, avant-garde, indie, alternative. (nobody can really define my kind of music). I prefer to let others talk about it.

Question: Can you tell us about Lonely Place To Be?

Ekat Bork : I released my latest single "Lonely Place To be" on April 10th, as the world tries to close its doors on the Coronavirus.

Written and recorded in the heady days of summer 2019, the lyrics are remarkably prescient in these strange days. The lyrics seem to say it all to me and being where we are now, the line 'I'm a bit upset because my art seems so dark' is disturbing. But we must strengthen ourselves through this experience. As the song says, 'save our feelings… save the precious things we've learned.'

Question: Is there a particular message you hope listeners take from your music?

Ekat Bork : I wanted to dedicate the last single to our fight against an invisible enemy. An enemy that is trying to force us into isolation but that will not win. We must seize the moment and find a way to continue, even alone!

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Ekat Bork : I like both! I love to perform, however, as at this precise moment, I have to give up. You can live without it. Thankfully today we have socials and digital broadcasting we can partially compensate for direct broadcasting. I could exist without performances, but without my music creation Ekat Bork wouldn't exist as I don't do covers.

Question: Which is your favourite song to perform live and why?

Ekat Bork : I don't really have a favourite one because I wrote all of my songs, so I love them all in a different way. It's easier for me to say which of the songs are no longer a part of me anymore.

Question: If you could have anyone, in the world, attend a show, who would it be?

Ekat Bork : Roger Federer, absolutely!

Question: Which music/artists are you currently listening to?

Ekat Bork : Well, this might sound weird… I don't listen to much music because I like to create my own music. I believe creating your own style, identity and sound you have to be like nobody else.

Question: What is the biggest challenge you have faced along the way to your musical success?

Ekat Bork : Maybe that day I decided to leave my band and continue alone. In fact it wasn't really a band, since the music we played was my music. My very good musicians were all very egocentric, very difficult and pretentious. I got tired and took a step forward alone.

Question: What's a typical day like, during COVID19?

Ekat Bork : Sometimes it doesn't differ much from quarantining myself when I compose or prepare the life project. Right now that they force me to do it, it might weigh me down a little more but I take this opportunity to launch a single and since I do everything alone, I have a lot to do and there is no boredom.

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Ekat Bork : I find great satisfaction when I see that people appreciate my music. The desire to be heard and loved is inherent in each of us. The music is satisfying the need to make yourself heard and loved and I am glad that I am succeeding after years of work.

Question: What's next, for you?

Ekat Bork : In June I will launch another single 'Driving my Mustang' and in October I will hopefully release my NEW upcoming album 'EKAT'.

Question: Can you share your socials? (links please)

Ekat Bork : Of course! That would be a pleasure, thanks!
