Give Homewares a Rocking Makeover with Dulux Duramax Granite Effect Paint

Looking for an easy way to refresh your interiors? Add the unique texture and tones of granite to plain furniture and accessories with specialist spray paint.

Stone is one of the hottest design trends of 2018 and now you can inject a little rocking goodness into your home with a simple can of spray paint. Dulux Duramax Granite Effect is a fast-drying, water-based spray paint that delivers the texture and tones of natural stone to everyday objects in a matter of minutes.

The high-performance finish is available in two tones – Grey (for a dark granite effect) and Light Grey (for a lighter granite effect). It is suitable for use on painted metal, wood and plastic surfaces, allowing you to give everything from outdoor furniture and garden pots to decorative items in your living spaces a groovy, granite makeover.

To apply, simply add a base coat of Dulux Duramax Gloss colours (we suggest a grey-ish colour to match the Grey or Light Grey granite effect), topcoat with Dulux Duramax Granite Effect, and finish off with a Dulux Duramax Clear Coat to ensure the surface is protected from the elements.

Application tools:
Dulux Duramax undercoat (optional)
Dulux Duramax Granite Effect – Grey
Dulux Duramax Gloss – Tranquil Retreat
Dulux Duramax Clear Coat
Painter's tape
Damp cloth
Drop sheet or newspaper
Lazy Susan (optional pending areas of the stool being painted, but recommended)
Safety glasses or goggles

Step 1 - Surface Preparation
Choose a well-ventilated area.
Place a drop sheet or newspaper on your work surface to protect it from overspray.
Put on safety glasses.
Use painter's tape to mask off parts of the stool that you don't want painted.
Wipe down surface with a cloth, making sure it is clean and dry, and free from grease, rust and dirt.

Step 2 – Application
Place stool on the Lazy Susan so you can spray all sides without touching your paintwork.
Apply undercoat, if desired.
Shake can for at least 3 minutes before and during use for ease of application. Apply the base coat colour – Dulux Duramax Gloss in Tranquil Retreat.
Hold can upright 15 to 25cm from the surface. Spray with smooth, even strokes parallel to the surface. Apply with several light mist coats rather than one heavy coat. Allow 2 minutes' drying time between each coat.
Apply a light coat of Granite Effect Grey, using the painting technique above. To get an even textured finish, slowly spin the Lazy Susan as you spray.
Leave stool to dry for one hour before applying a second coat.
Finish off with a coat of Dulux Duramax Gloss Clear Coat to protect the painted surface.
The stool is touch dry in 24 hours under normal conditions.
Tips: Shake can for at least three minutes before use and regularly during use. For best results, prime bare steel and iron with Dulux Duramax Metal Primer and plastic with Dulux Duramax Plastic Primer before painting.

Step 3 - Clean Up
Clean up overspray while it is still wet with mineral turps.
Spray unwanted paint onto newspaper and allow to dry.
Check with your local council about responsible paint disposal.

Give dull furniture and accessories a chic, coastal makeover with special-effect spray paint, Dulux Duramax.

Looking for a quick and easy weekend project? Dulux Duramax Chalky Finish is a fast-drying spray paint that delivers a velvety, ultra matt finish to a variety of surfaces, including wood, metal, glass and most plastics, allowing you to upcycle everything from dated furniture to dull accessories in less than an hour (in fact, painted pieces are touch dry in just 10 minutes!) With its drip-free formulation, the high-performance paint delivers exceptional results every time – even if you've never attempted spray painting before.

Dulux Duramax Chalky Finish is available in seven on-trend colours, including Classic Duck Egg, Bordeaux Cream and Vintage Charcoal. The velvety, ultra matt finish can be sanded to create a one-colour or two-colour distressed look, giving homewares a beautifully weathered appearance. The coating is resistant to chipping, cracking and common household cleaners, meaning painted pieces are more than up to the demands of a busy home. Here's a step-by-step guide to giving a plain sideboard or vase a cool, coastal makeover.

Application tools:

Wipe down the surface with a damp cloth, making sure it is clean and free from grease, rust and dirt. Ensure the surface is completely dry before painting.

Step 2 – Application

Hold can upright 15 to 25cm from the surface, and spray with smooth, even strokes parallel to the surface.
Object is touch dry in 10 minutes.

For a distressed look, wait 2 hours after painting and then sand or distress with fine to medium sandpaper.
For a two-colour distressed look, apply two coats of two different Dulux Duramax Chalky Finish colours, wait 24 hours, then sand or distress with a fine to medium sandpaper.
