Ten little hermit crabs scuttle to the beach,
Down swoops a seagull Screech! Screech! Screech!
Hush says the seahorse
Shh says the sea,
How many hermit crabs will there be?
From the award winning early childhood author Lee Fox, comes a fabulous read-aloud picture book which will have children eagerly counting as each hermit crab disappears. One by one the reader counts down as the crabs encounter the challenges of the seaside, including seaweed, crayfish and sharks. But do not despair, when only one lonely little crab is left he is reunited with all the rest of his friends.
Filled with bright and lively artwork and 10 lovable hermit crabs, this fun book is perfect for the early childhood market.
Lee Fox is the author of the hilarious picture book, Ella Kazoo Will Not Brush her Hair, illustrated by Cathy Wilcox (shortlisted in the 2007 CBCA awards), and Jasper McFlea Will Not Eat His Tea, illustrated by Mitch Vane. Prior to becoming a writer, Lee was a production assistant for a commercial radio station, a Mormon, a cook in a childcare centre and the store manager on a remote Aboriginal community- and she has five children. Her writing career began in 2000, with several articles for The Age.
Shane McG is a Melbourne-based illustrator whose work appears in publications globally. When not chained to his computer he enjoys playing tennis badly, watching reruns of Bewitched and eating cake. His most recent book is The Robot's Pet by Nigel Gray.
Review: Truely a rhyming delight, as you count down the hermit crabs. Adorable and my child's new favourite.
