Elen Levon Like A Girl (In Love) Interview

An artist like Elen Levon does not come along very often; with a voice that carries power and thrust beyond her years, along with fashion sensibility and dance moves to boot, Elen is on the fast-track to becoming one of the nation's most talked about pop sensations.

-Like A Girl (In Love)' is the follow-up to last year's debut electro-pop dance-floor smash -Naughty', which propelled Elen into the spotlight and enjoyed major spins across Channel V, MTV and national FM radio, and even featured as a synch for global smash hit television series Gossip Girl! -Like A Girl (In Love)' will seek to firmly entrench the budding songstress into the mindset of every young Australian, and onto the wider pop music landscape.

Produced by Rogue Traders' James Ash and penned by Melinda Appleby and Jamie Appleby, -Like A Girl (In Love)' is a sizzling hook-heavy summer track with a thumping bass line and wailing hypnotic vocals. Filmed recently on-location in Cambodia by the talented Benn Jae of SILO, the video features Elen running wild across the beautifully rugged landscape, through small towns and an abandoned amusement park with accomplice in tow.

Fresh off the back of a thrilling performance at the Gala World Music Festival in Beijing last month, which was broadcast to over 1 billion via China's largest television network Beijing TV, Elen is pumped to deliver an electric new tune to eager fans.

Interview with Elen Levon

Question: How would you describe -Like A Girl (In Love)'?

Elen Levon: The song -Like A Girl (In Love)' was written by James Ash (from the Rouge Traders) and his wife Melinda. There are a lot of different ways to describe the song but it is about that overwhelming feeling of being in love and not really understanding it so you question if that is the feeling of what love is. What I am saying with the song is that you have me acting like a girl, in love – the confusion and the obsession associated with the feeling of love.

Question: Can you talk about the video, for -Like A Girl (In Love)'?

Elen Levon: The video was shot in Cambodia which was incredible. There were so many amazing locations and Cambodia is an amazing place to shoot. It was crazy seeing the kids of Cambodia living in the state that they are but they are still so happy. I was welcomed by a family who was extremely caring. We had a male model shoot with us; he was from Germany and lived in Mexico. I loved letting off fireworks on the beach and other crazy scenarios.

Question: How did it feel to hear your song played all over the airwaves?

Elen Levon: It is so cool, it's never the same as when you first start recording it as there are changes made including new instrumentals and harmonies which give the song that great feel. It is very exciting when I first hear the song back – I listened to the CD in my car ten or more times, when I first got it.

Question: What's it like working with James Ash?

Elen Levon: James Ash is awesome. I flew to Melbourne at 5am to work with James Ash in the studio where I recorded the song -Like A Girl (In Love)'.

Question: What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

Elen Levon: At the moment I am obsessed with the song -Get Your Arse Back Home' by Neon Hitch and Travie McCoy from Gym Class Heroes. I listen to the radio a lot and really love The Weekend, they're a really cool band. I am always really interested in listening to new artists and I research a lot on artists because I love music, so much.

Question: Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Elen Levon: I am a recording artist which I love because I enjoy being super creative and I can't stop writing or singing. Performing the song live takes it to that amazing feeling because it is like having a party with the crowd! I enjoy feeling the crowd's reaction to the song. Performing live changes the song, changes the feeling and takes everything to another level so I probably prefer performing.

Question: What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Elen Levon: From a very early age I listened to Madonna, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Beyonce and I think listening to them and watching them perform live and attending concerts really inspired me to grow and achieve my musical goals. The music industry seemed like it was a natural move for me, it felt as if I had to do it.

Question: What's a typical day like?

Elen Levon: When I have a day to myself I love to go to the movies and the beach with my friends. I have recently discovered that I love prawning and skateboarding (I got a skateboard for Christmas). I enjoy a range of things.

Question: What has been your favourite part of becoming a music artist?

Elen Levon: I think my favourite part in general is not only finding the music I love but also finding myself as a person. I have definitely enjoyed getting advice from other artists and learning about the industry – I love learning.

Question: If you could collaborate with another artist, who would it be?

Elen Levon: I was thinking about this the other day and because I am an Aussie girl I think I'd love to collaborate with Orianthi and Sia. Sia is an Adelaide girl and I have enjoyed listening to her on Flo Rida's newest record. Orianthi is a guitarist who worked with Michael Jackson. It would be fun to work with Madonna, one day too!

Question: Do you have a website fans can visit?

Elen Levon: http://twitter.com/elenlevon
