Jennifer Lopez must be the luckiest girl in the world.
She's got the most famous derriere in the world, a modelling contract with cosmetic giant L'Oreal, her new album, Jlo has been a raging success on charts across the globe, and her new film The Wedding Planner went the straight to No 1 at the box office in the USA.
In a whirlwind visit to Sydney last month (with a new man by her side - she's split from Puff Daddy) to promote Jlo and The Wedding Planner, she charmed everyone with her grace, good nature and her obvious drive to succeed. Her motto is "If you're going to make it in the entertainment business, you need a do or die attitude. There are no alternatives".
Jennifer's fierce determination assured her climb to the top, from her humble beginnings as a dancer, appearing in Janet Jackson's That's the way love goes clip, to her performance in the film Selena, which earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. Her musical success was cemented with a Latin Grammy nomination for her duet with Marc Anthony.
Jennifer's position at the top of Hollywood's A-list is secure and life is good for this girl from the Bronx, something she appreciates. "It's funny. I went to Paris for the Versace show with my assistant Arlene, who I've known since I was seven. We flew by Concorde and at the airport a Mercedes picked us up. I put a tape of my new album in the tape deck, and we're sitting there, smiling away, and I said, look at us we're two girls from the Bronx in a Mercedes in Paris with a guard, a driver, listening to my album on our way to a Versace show! I felt like Audrey Hepburn."
Jennifer's fans seem to adore her not only for her diverse talents, but because she chooses to stay "real" There'll be no whispers of anorexia with this curvy babe and she doesn't mind being a role model. "I've seen articles where they had me grouped in with larger women.'... But I don't take it as an insult, because they're identifying me as a real person. If that helps other people's self esteem, good! It helps mine too!"
