Curvy Girls Protest their right to feature in beauty advertising
In demonstration against the use of emaciated size eight supermodels featured in beauty advertising, a bevy of 'real' women took to the streets of Sydney this week to celebrate real curves and body confidence.
After decades of unrealistic sized models demanding we buy all sorts of beauty products, Australian women have had enough, with 94% saying advertisers should use more natural and curvy looking women*.
This week, 20 girls revealed their curves in a message to the beauty industry that bold is beautiful. Dove?s recent research shows that stick thin models used in beauty advertising undermines women?s body confidence, hence why Dove has developed it?s latest Firming range campaign featuring real sized women with ample bosoms and curvy bums.
Reminiscent of the Renaissance, curves are back in vogue with rounded women set to become the calendar girls of the noughties. In conjunction with their Firming campaign and in celebration of this shift in perception, Dove is conducting a nationwide search for women with confidence and curves they are happy with (no matter how big or small) to take part in their Curvy Calendar Girls promotion.
For too long beauty has been defined by narrow stereotypes and Dove thinks it's time to change all that. Dove understand that real beauty comes in many shapes and sizes. That's why they want women to take part in the Curvy Calendar Girl promotion - a 2006 calendar which will be featured in madison magazine!
Dove are after women to enter photos of themselves (either on their own or with a group of friends) showing off their body and their curves in underwear or swimmers (no matter how big or small). The chosen Curvy Calendar Girls will: Be flown to Sydney
