"Stop Calling Me"

When singer/songwriters Simone Stacey and Naomi Wenitong met at an Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Commision Music Course two years ago, the chemistry was powerful and immediate.

Not only did the Cairns based singers share common ancestry; their love of music, passion for performing and the extraordinary blend of their voices made them instant soul mates.

Within weeks of writing their first song together, the duo recorded a rough demo that caught the ear of Cairns based musician, producer, and entrepreneur, Reno Nicastro. Reno had just finished building his state-of-the-art Megatrax Digital Recording Studios. Megatrax promptly became home of the girls, who spent the next twelve months writing and recording.

When their demo, "Stop Calling Me" started to get played on Cairns radio, the phone started ringing with calls from interested Record Company Executives. Simone and Naomi flew to Sydney for a showcase performance for Sony Executives who were so impressed that they were immediately signed to Sony Music.

One of the standout tracks of that performance was "Stop Calling me", a catchy R&B influenced track that highlights the dilemma a woman is faced when confronted by the unwanted attentions of an over zealous male. "Stop Calling Me" was chosen as the girl's debut single and will be released early 2002.

Shakaya is a unique combination of styles and influences - a hybrid of mystical and spiritual cultures, with a passion and vitality of youth - two talented people pursuing a dream through their music.

So impressed was Human Nature's manager when he heard "Stop Calling Me", he immediately booked Shakaya to support Human Nature to their national "Here and Now" tour, March 2002.
