Cat's Eye Chic

Each new season we are given a slew of fabulous new looks to play with, and this winter, the hottest look is the sophisticated cats eye. Originally favoured by sultry screen sirens Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, this time round it's a sophisticated, clean variation. It looks difficult, but with a little know how you'll be purring like a pussycat in no time!

Technical rating: 7/10
Tools: Shell, beige or neutral coloured eye shadow
Sharp black eyeliner pencil. The truly steady handed should try liquid liner.
Black mascara
Tip: If you find it difficult to draw a steady line, lean your elbows on a stable surface such as the bathroom bench top.

Start by applying the eye shadow from lash line to eye socket.

With a steady hand, line the eyeliner as close as possible along the lash line from the inner corner to the very end, extending slightly past the end of the eyelid. The effect should be a straight line becoming slightly thicker in the last ¼ of the lid, ending in a subtle flick at the end of the eyelid.

To minimise mistakes, you can break the line into two shorter sections, lining from inner corner to middle, and outer corner to middle. If you do make a mistake, erase with a cotton bud dipped into makeup remover and try again.

To complete the look, keep cheeks fresh. Use sheer cream blush to create a flush of colour, or use a shimmer on the cheekbones for a more glam touch. Lips should be glossy and luscious in tones or red, berry or bronze.

If you are feeling outrageous, take a tip from Gucci and experiment with gunmetal grey, pewter and emerald green eyeliner. Make the cats eye smoulder by blending a coordinating shadow over the line. Remember practise makes perfect! Viva la vamp!
