Beauty Doc tip:

Cellulite affects most women - developed regardless of diet and exercise, these unevenly distributed fatty deposits are a common problem. So if unwanted dimples and lumps on your thighs, hips, bottom or tummy afflict you this summer, then treat yourself to a stimulating aromatherapy massage. Increasing circulation in problem areas is beneficial.

*Use a natural bristle brush or a loofah and massage (toward your heart). Aromatherapy can help, so add to a base oil some grapefruit or fennel, and massage into your skin to boost this treatment.

Dark Hair for Summer

Hi.
I have really dark brown hair and I'm worried about what will happen during summer. I don't want my hair to get lighter from sitting out in the sun so much and since I can't carry a hat around the whole summer do you think I should put a colour in my hair to stop the suns rays from lightening my hair?
Thanks Kristy

Hi Kristy!

Beauty Doc tip:

For max hair protection and skin anti-ageing, never skip the sunscreen!!

If you are spending your "whole summer" in the sun, then I have to say that I am concerned for your skin as much as you are concerned for your hair… I know that being tanned for summer is obviously a priority for you, but the sun causes irreparable damage to your skin, and is the leading element in speeding up the ageing process! Please be sun sensible, and wear 30+ sunscreen and a hat when you are in the sun – Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world.

As part of your daily routine, apply your sunscreen, and use one of the hair products available that is designed to protect your hair – with a hair moisturiser like PHYTOPLAGE.

Sun protection oil shields your hair from effects of sun, salt water and chlorinated water with nourishing and hydrating plant extracts. Always reapply after swimming or being in the sun for a few hours (as with your sunscreen) for maximum protection. And, hey, if a "boring" hat isn't your thing, keep your 'do covered with a funky hat, scarf or bandanna – you'll protect your hair and scalp from the damaging UV rays in style!

On a hair colour note – if you get a tint (permanent colour) this chemically alters your hair and your hair becomes more porus resulting in an increased susceptibility to sun damage, where as a semi-permanent just stains the hair and is probably a better option for maintaining your darker shade, while keeping your locks lustrous! The sun strips your hair of moisture, so nurture your tresses with regular hydrating treatments - this assists the "fade out" which increases when hair is damaged, so protect your hair to preserve colour and condition and keep it in tip top shape.
