*** HOTTEST 100 UPDATE ***
Back in 1989, when then Triple J announcer Laurie Zion kicked off the idea of a Hottest 100, he could never have imagined that a dozen years later, we'd be seeing the release of the ninth volume of the
Triple J Hottest 100. He could never have fathomed the idea that the release of Volume Nine would also see some lucky music lover winning a stack of prizes worth more than $20,000 just for purchasing the two millionth copy pressed in the series. But that's what's about to happen!
While Zion started things off with the idea of getting Triple J listeners to vote their Hottest 100 songs of all time, by 1993, when the first volume of the now annual and hotly anticipated
Triple J Hottest 100 series was released, the format had settled on the listener-voted Top 100 releases of that year.
Each year since, up to half a million listeners have been involved in the song selection by registering their votes and those votes are then tallied to make up the track listing. The most impressive change over the years is the increasing number of Australian acts making it not just onto the Hottest 100 but figuring significantly in the top 10. In fact, Australia's own Alex Lloyd topped the
Hottest 100 Volume 9 with his song, Amazing. Now, with the sales already exceeding 1,989,000 copies and counting, making the
Triple J Hottest 100 the biggest selling Australian compilation series, the excitement is about to reach fever pitch with the imminent approach of the sale of the two millionth CD.
One copy of
Triple J Hottest 100 Vol 9 will carry a secret and the lucky purchaser will win a home stereo system worth $20,000 plus every available album that ever spawned a track that featured on all of the Hottest 100 albums. That is a one heck of a record collection!
Of course, they forgot to mention that they need to calm down first!!! So who shall it be? Stay tuned....
