Scott is Moving On!

Scott is Moving On! For latest Popstar Scott Cain, life doesn't get any better than this! Discovered on national TV on the third Popstars series, Scott had all his dreams come true when the Australian public selected this 21-year-old likeable larrikin to be THE next Popstar. From the moment you meet Scott, it becomes apparent why he warmed the hearts of many people. Cool yet unpretentious, energetic and let's not forget that he can belt out a wicked tune(!), Scott is the consummate professional, taking his new life in his stride and preparing himself for the exciting road ahead.

WE lucky gals got to hang out with Scott for an afternoon, which included an impromptu ride on his scooter, around the offices of Warner Music!

GIRL: You've gone from being a furniture polisher to a Popstar overnight. Does your new life still seem a bit surreal?

Scott:
To be honest, I don't even think about, it's just what I'm doing right now and it's just how it is.

GIRL: Do you remember what you were thinking when Jackie O' picked up that infamous red phone for the last time to announce the winner of the Popstars series?

Scott:
I remember thinking I just want this to be over with and when Jackie announced the winner, I remember feeling really numb over the whole thing. I didn't know how to take it all; it was quite strange. It's a really strange place for people to be in having all those cameras around.

GIRL: Have the other finalists been in contact with you since your big win, offering their congratulations?

Scott:
Well obviously Danielle was there at the time but I also spoke to James and Troy recently, it was really good to hear from them.

GIRL: When did you first get a taste for the performing life and thought "yeah this is what I want to do for the rest of my life"?

Scott:
I've always liked singing and dancing. I grew up performing in front of my family at our family functions, our performances used to always be big productions! (laughs) So I have always loved entertaining and that's what I grew up doing.

GIRL: While you were working as a furniture polisher, did you constantly envision you were going to make a career out of music and that you were just biding your time until the right opportunity presented itself to you?

Scott:
Yeah kinda…probably for the last couple of years I've just been kicking back and didn't really pursue a career in singing, but I always thought "yeah something's going to come up soon." (laughs) And it kinda did…

GIRL: From a personal point of view, what do you think set you apart from the other finalists in the end? Why did the Australian public want YOU as their next Popstar?

Scott:
I think it had a lot to do with the TV show and how they put it all together. When I watched the show back and saw the way I was portrayed, always laughing and joking around, I even found it entertaining to watch.

GIRL: So do you think that because of the way they portrayed you on Popstars as a fun and larger-than-life person, that the public warmed to you perhaps a little more than the other finalists on the show?

Scott:
Yeah it was really good to watch and people probably watched it and thought to themselves, "yeah I'd like to see more of that and of him".

GIRL: The Scott we saw on our TV screens each week, was that a true representation of you?

Scott:
Yeah it was me and the things I was doing…

GIRL: Do you feel pressure to prove yourself now after being discovered on national television and on the Popstars show?

Scott:
I feel that because I am a clown and was portrayed this way on the show, people will probably want me to act that way all the time. So in terms of pressure, I do feel there is a little pressure to constantly act the way I was portrayed.

GIRL: Aside from singing, you also love to ride your skateboard. What else do you like to do for fun?

Scott:
Well I'm a big movie buff, I like to play video games - I'm just a big kid I guess! I also like fishing and reading.

GIRL: How receptive have the people of Australia been to your debut single "I'm Moving On"?

Scott:
Apparently it is going really well, so I'm happy about that.

GIRL: Now you are a bit of a larrikin, what has been the best practical joke you've ever played on someone?

Scott:
I used to make heaps of prank phone calls! (laughs)

GIRL: The song "When I Need You" appears on your CD, how did it feel to have Leo Sayer give you a call?

Scott:
It was pretty cool! I'm the kinda guy who gets star struck so it was great to be talking to this famous guy on the other end of the phone because I had just finished singing his song and here I was talking to him on the phone.

GIRL: Did he have any words of wisdom to offer you?

Scott:
He just said whenever you sing; make sure you are singing from the heart, you have to feel what you're singing. It was good advice.

GIRL: Are you determined in the future to put pen to paper and write your own songs?

Scott:
I am going to be working with Nick Howard, the guy who produced the "Superstition" and "When I Need You" tracks, on my album and we are going to co-write some stuff together. So I'll definitely be doing some writing because that is what is going to make the songs more personal to me.

GIRL: If you were given the opportunity to record a duet, who would you want to record with?

Scott:
I really wanted to do this duet with James. We went to this party one time; it was the kid's next door when we were all living together in the Popstars house in Hunter's Hill. We were like the stars of the party, James and I got up and did this rap which was really cool! So I'd like to do something like that with him because I just thought it was cool.

GIRL: All artists have a signature of sorts - what do you think will be the "Scott Cain" signature?

Scott:
I would dare to say hats! And I'll probably always wear skate shoes because they're so comfortable.

GIRL: Have you had any strange encounters with your fans as yet?

Scott:
When we were living in the Popstars house, there was this one girl who kept driving up and down the street all hours of the night, with my "Superstition" song blaring from her car! (laughs)
