GIRL.COM.AU - 'STARS OF TOMORROW' SERIES

Melbourne-based vocal group SLINKEE MINX are in the house! Set to make their mark in the music industry, these self-assured singer/songwriters have their sights set on a bigger picture, which extends way beyond commercial success. With previous releases on compilation albums and appearing under other artist names, Slinkee Minx are not new to what it takes to survive in the heat and beat of the world of music. We profile this exciting new group in this month's Stars of Tomorrow!

Stage Name(s): Diva, Princess & Foxy
Age(s): We are all 20 something's!

Location: Melbourne, Australia

Music Genre: Funky Vocal House

When did you realise that music was your passion? We have all had a passion for music since we can remember! When we were younger, all our parents enrolled us in singing and dancing classes and we have never looked back since!

List three musical influences: Jamiroquai, Madison Avenue & Modjo

How many years have you been performing? Too many to remember! In fact, we can't recall a time when we weren't performing. Regarding Slinkee Minx, we have only just started to get out there and perform as we have been working in the studio recording for the past year. But we are loving every minute of performing so far!

Do you write your own material? Definitely - this is where the money is at and it just gives us all a buzz to see words on a page come alive in a song. We are all passionate writers and wouldn't have it any other way.

Have you found the Internet to be helpful/useful in fast-tracking your music career? Because the Internet is a global medium, there are no limits to what information you can now find in terms of overseas labels, producers etc…The Internet is a great tool for getting in contact with these sorts of people. Also having a presence on the web is a very important thing for any artist.

In following your dream, who has helped you along the way? Our family and friends have been a great support, as has our manager who keeps us grounded and focused on the bigger picture.

Is there anything you wish you could change about the music industry? It is definitely getting harder for new acts to break into the industry and in most cases, it is not what you know but it's more a case of who you know! Unless you have an inroad already with the bigger record companies, they don't want to have a bar of you. That is quite an unfortunate attitude to have as Australia has a wealth of talent to offer, but sadly, only a very small amount of people get the breaks they deserve.

What advice can you offer to other budding young artists? Remain true to yourself, stay focused, have fun and always dream big! Be persistent and keep in people's faces, and always improve on your craft.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years time? Hopefully we will have three albums under our belt and be in the position to produce and work with other artists. We also have plans to launch our own "Slinkee Minx" clothing range, café and production company! The sky's the limit really!

Where can people purchase/listen to your music? If people want to learn more about Slinkee Minx and support our music they can log onto the official website at www.slinkeeminx.com
