How To Be Resilient

As technology, greater interconnectedness, unemployment rates and economic uncertainty have accelerated change, Author, Stacey Copas, gives people tools to cope in her debut book -How To Be Resilient'.

Personal resilience is something Copas is an expert in. At the age of twelve years old, Stacey Copas, had a devastating accident which left her a quadriplegic and dependent on a wheelchair. She is now in training for 2016 Rio Paralympics and travels extensively as Australia's #1 keynote speaker and facilitator on resilience and turning adversity into an asset.

'The term VUCA–Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity – is frequently used to describe our fast-paced world, especially in business," says Copas and the devastating impacts of this phenomenon are sadly abundant.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has predicted that by 2030, depression will account for the highest level of disability accorded any physical or mental disorder in the world (WHO, 2008). In Australia, significant levels of depression affect approximately 20 per cent of adults either directly or indirectly during their lifetime.*

Her book is a practical -how to' of building your own personal resilience from the ground up. It covers nine areas in which any individual can train themselves to exercise the muscle of resilience.

'There is often a perception that resilience is something you either have naturally or you do not," Stacey says, 'but the reality is that resilience is a skill that can be learned and just like building muscle in the gym, the more you practice it, the more resilient you will become."

'Not getting sucked into a void of -blame-a-titis' and victim mentality, finding the right support and controlling the voice in your head from awfulising situations are just a small part of how I help people to face adversity and change head on."

Copas' book has been launched to great acclaim by those who see resilience as a key factor in their life successes, including Layne Beachley, Jack Delosa and Brian Tracy.

'Becoming the most successful surfer in history and paving the way for future generations required me to adapt to the ebbs and flows of life and its challenges. Adversity and setbacks tested my character, hunger, work ethic and my resilience. If you want to know how to use resilience to accelerate your success, you must read this book," says Layne Beachley.

Stacey Copas is Australia's #1 keynote speaker and facilitator on resilience and turning adversity into an asset, delivering keynote speeches, training, consulting and coaching to organisations such as Telstra, SACA and CSIRO.

In June 2015 she published her first book 'How To Be Resilient", which has been endorsed by Layne Beachley, Jack Delosa and Brian Tracy.

Stacey has had more than her fair share of setbacks and did not let a devastating accident that left her a quadriplegic and dependent on a wheelchair at 12 years old slow her down. She has used her life experience and personal philosophies to help others build their resilience and deal with difficulties in their lives.

After 22 years of inactivity, following her accident, she has further stretched out of her comfort zones taking up athletics, gaining national and state medals and is currently training for 2016 Rio Paralympics with a gold medal firmly in her sights.
