Natalie Moy

Natalie Moy is a 25-year-old singer and songwriter from Sydney. Natalie was surrounded by the entertainment industry growing up and has had experience in all areas of performing. From the age of two Natalie tried dancing and singing. At the age of 10, Natalie performed in the Michael Jackson History Tour and in the US at Disneyland.

Natalie Moy had the chance to work with Audius, who wrote number one hits for Australia's Delta Goodrem and Jessica Mauboy. Together they wrote, 'I Waited' which placed Natalie in the top six finalists of the Nokia Be Heard Competition in 2007.

Natalie Moy fits perfectly into the modern day pop music scene. Her soothing lyrical voice provides a soulful feel- yet the music is still pop. A great lyric combined with a talent voice really portrays the beautiful story of a loving relationship. The band does not overshadow Natalie's sound and it is clear she could entertain without and backing music.

Her second song, I Waited, combines a popular sound with a story- one that most can relate to. The relatable lyrics, chorus repetition and great quick vocals suggests I Waited could be a song to dance too- it certainly would make most move.

Interview with Natalie Moy

How does it feel to have danced at Disneyland- most Australians only dream of going there?

Natalie Moy: Most kids only dream of going there and lots of kids never get the chance. I'm really grateful I had those opportunities.

What part did you play in the Michael Jackson History Tour?

Natalie Moy: I was 1 of a bunch of very lucky kids who got to be on stage with MJ during heal the world at his concert in Sydney, the History Tour in 96. Meeting him was surreal. He was out of this world.

What was your favourite part about performing on MTV?

Natalie Moy: The Nokia Be Heard Competition aired on MTV. That was so nerve racking because all the other finalists were bands and then there was little me but it was a great experience. I love MTV.

You have been developing your career for 12 years- are you glad to finally see success?

Natalie Moy: It's really been since 2007 that I decided to throw everything into perusing my career as a singer/writer. It's a slow process but I have no doubts. As long as I can wake up each day and keep educating myself to be better writer and write good music, then that's success to me.

What is next for you?

Natalie Moy: The next month will see me finish writing a few new tracks. It's a big deal for me, my debut as a writer/producer having written and digitally composed these songs as well as mixing them and getting them finalised. I will continue to peruse my goal as a recording artist and hope to find support from an Australian label. I plan to travel and learn from the best producers and song writers to further develop myself as an artist & writer.

What inspires you to write your own songs?

Natalie Moy: I find it a really great escape. My writing is inspired by everyday situations, life, relationships, love, loss... The usual, but I try to be brutally truthful and honest in my writing. I don't just decide I will write about something. It has to have meaning in one way or another.

What music/artists do you listen to when you are not playing your own?

Natalie Moy: My taste is so broad. I am a devoted R&B/Soul follower but I listen to all genres because I think to be a great song writer & produce great music you cannot be bias to 1 genre. My favourite album of all time is The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. I tend to listen to her or Erykah Badu when I'm just hanging and chilling out.

Do you prefer performing live or recording?

Natalie Moy: That's a tough question. Because I love to write and love the whole creative process of writing as much as I do singing, recording and the recording studio environment is my favourite. Performing live is a totally different feeling, I enjoy the adrenalin of it.

What/who was your inspiration to go into the music industry?

Natalie Moy: Nothing else fits me at all! When I wasn't a part of it I missed it.
